Cards are the Odds is a turn based dungeon-crawler card game where you play as a cyborg and fight your way though the dungeon's monsters to find great glory and treasures.

Rules

In this game you have to defeat 3 monsters in the dungeon to reach it's end.

The game is played in turns, you play first, and after you, is the monster's turn.

But how do I kill the monsters?

We got you covered, you possess cards, up to 5 in your hand that you use to act, mostly damage the enemy, but not limited to.

But there is a catch to act, both you and the enemy needs to throw a dice, if you don't get a number that is high enough, you lose your action, or even worse. But a good number can change the tides of battle!

You can find a tutorial of how to read a card underneath this section.

While using cards you may need fuel to do so. Fuel is a resource you use as a cyborg to perform more complicated actions, usually associated with higher damage numbers.

Besides the damage, there is also some status effects you can cause to the enemy, sometimes upon yourself, here follows a description on them:

  • Stun: when you are stunned you lose a turn.(You can't chain stuns, there is always a acting turn between them)
  • Advantage or Disadvantage: these affects your dice results, while advantage adds to the dice result, disadvantage subtracts from it and they cancel each other. After each turn you lose 1 advantage or disadvantage until reaches 0.
  • Bleed: while bleeding, damage is dealt at the end of each turn for a defined duration.
  • Fire: while burning, damage is dealt at the start of each turn for a defined duration.

This is a card looks like, let's dig into how it works.

In the upper left part of the card a black drop displays the fuel needed to use a card, some cards don't use fuel, and because of that, they don't have this black drop on top.

In the middle you find the card image and it's title, that gives us a display of the card's power.

Under that you find two colored circles, one with a tip pointing down  and the other with the tip pointing up . These are the values for failure and success which uses the result of dice you throw.

If your dice result is lower than the failure number, then you get a critical failure, usually giving damage or a status upon yourself.
If your dice is between failure and success, that's a failure, usually nothing happens and you just lost your action.
If your number is greater than success, that means your action was successful and you've done whatever you intended.
And last but not least, if, and only if, you roll a 20, that's a critical success, meaning, you've outdone youself in your action.

Under that is the description of the card, where you can get info of damage, effects and so on.

On the lower left you can find some black drops, these appear when the card regenerates fuel, the number of drops indicates how much fuel the cards regenerates.

On the lower right part of the card you may find a fire icon, this indicates the cards damage, if any.
